I have evolved a holistic approach to design combining my functional engineering, aesthetic architecture and practical construction experience to design and make simple, practical and elegant, bicycles, loudspeakers, cars and buildings.
I enjoy the process of learning new skills and studying architecture at Newcastle University gave me the opportunity to experiment, play and test different methods of solving design problems. The experience allowed me to understand and embrace using intuitive experimentation as a valid tool in my design process.
The process of physically making things has tested my theoretical understanding of how materials behave when I manipulate them, how easy they are to form, shape or deform. I have experienced the amount of work, skill and time involved in a making process to achieve a desired quality. This experience has informed and enriched my design process, tailoring designs to match client budgets, materials and skills available.
